Employee Spotlight: David Swingle

Written by on April 24, 2018

Those of us on the front lines in technical support know how important it is to focus on people. We hear it from appraisers all the time: knowledgeable, friendly tech support specialists are hard to come by in today's world.

David Swingle is just that. He joined the tech department in 2015, and his role quickly evolved from a senior tech to one of our team leads. David is responsible for making sure that our support team stays top notch on good days, bad days, and everything in between — and he's more than just a behind-the-scenes manager. He goes out of his way to make sure every customer is taken care of. It's not an easy job, but David's proven he's up for the task.

How would you describe your job at a la mode?

David: In a word, I'd say my career is rewarding. We come across tons of diverse situations and keeping standards high while meeting deadlines gives me new challenges every day. Overcoming those challenges to make a positive impact on people is very rewarding.

What’s your favorite aspect of the job?

David: Helping people. I help our customers get the most out of our products, and I help our techs become the best they can be.

If a la mode were a TV show, which character – from any sitcom, drama, or reality show – who would you represent and why?

David: I relate a lot to Geoffrey Chaucer from A Knight's Tale. The belief that no matter how bad things get, one should simply soldier on is very much in line with my own mantra.

Who do you admire most and why?

David: My parents. They always tried to do the right thing, and teach me what was right, regardless of what they were going through. I deeply value the lessons I learned from both of them.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

David: Homemade biscuits and gravy. With Blue and Gold Sausage, and maybe a little hot sauce. Don't knock it 'til you try it!

What is your key piece of advice for appraisers that use a la mode?

David: Take advantage of the goods. There are a lot of people that don't make use of everything we have to offer, whether it's time-saving tools in TOTAL or partaking in our training sessions. We're here to help. Take full advantage of that.

What's kept you working for a la mode?

David: The opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of both our customers and our employees.

We depend on each other to get through every day, whether our role involves directly helping appraisers over the phone or working behind the scenes to make things happen. We know you depend on us, too, which is why we get to come to work with a purpose. Thank you for that, and thanks for being part of a la mode.
