Employee Spotlight: Heather Huskinson

Written by on July 12, 2018

Like appraising, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineer, and Math) industry is dominated by men, which is why our next Employee Spotlight pick is extra special.

Heather started at a la mode as a support technician in 2013. It was obvious she had a knack for solving problems, so our QA department snatched her up so she could test updates before they were released. After a couple of years of doing some good ol' quality assurance, she moved over to developing our desktop formfiller, TOTAL — which is no small task.

How would you describe your job at a la mode?

Heather: I'm a software developer for our desktop products. I mostly work on stability issues, but also the occasional new feature or enhancement.

What’s your favorite aspect of your job?

Heather: My favorite thing about my job is when I work on a problem or feature, and it gets good feedback from customers.

If a la mode were a TV show, which character – from any sitcom, drama, or reality show – who would you represent and why?

Heather: Elaine Benes from Seinfeld. We are both great at dancing and jokes.

Who do you admire most and why?

Heather: People who do things like volunteer or write open-source code. They give their time to try to make the world better, and I find that inspiring.

If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Heather: Sushi! Unless I'm paying for all of these meals. In which case, tacos!

What is your key piece of advice for appraisers that use a la mode?

Heather: Always let us know what is working for you and what isn't. We prioritize what we do based on customer feedback and are always trying to make your job easier.

What's kept you working for a la mode?

Heather: Wonderful people and unparalleled benefits make the company easy to work for, and I like being a part of an industry as important as the appraisal industry.

We depend on each other to get through every day, whether our role involves directly helping appraisers over the phone or working behind the scenes to make things happen. We know you depend on us, too, which is why we get to come to work with a purpose. Thank you for that, and thanks for being part of a la mode.
