Jason Petry, Product Analyst & Licensed Home Inspector
Tell us about yourself.
Jason: I began my career by serving 11 years in the United States Air Force, where I worked as a weapons loader and later became an instructor for the B-52. After transitioning out of the military, I moved to Oklahoma and joined Cotality | a la mode as a Support Technician on the appraisal side. I held that role from 2015 to 2021, helping users navigate appraiser software.
In 2021, I moved into a Product Analyst role focused on exploring new markets. During that time, I began researching the home inspection space and realized our team needed deeper, hands-on knowledge of this field. With a background in HVAC and electrical work through my family’s business, I decided to become a licensed home inspector myself.
Currently, I’m part of the incredible team working on Property Vision, where we’re building tools that empower inspectors with smarter, more intuitive technology.
What did you do to prepare for using the Property Vision app?
Jason: I started researching home inspectors – who they are, what they do, and the type of regulations around home inspectors. I evaluated over 25 software products, attended multiple industry conventions, and had countless conversations with inspectors to learn what matters most to them.
What’s your favorite part of inspecting homes?
Jason: My favorite part of inspecting homes is being able to walk into a home and think about the memories made of those who had lived there. At the same time, I focus on uncovering the important details of the home’s current state and informing the next family, helping them decide if it’s the right place for them to create their own memories.
Why do you like Property Vision? What problems does it solve?
Jason: I like Property Vision because it's different from other software on the market. In my experiences of other apps and software that I've tried, I had to learn to inspect the way the software is directed.
With Property Vision, I'm able to inspect with my own flow. It streamlines everything. Instead of stopping to find the exact section before taking a photo, I can capture the image immediately and let Image Analytics identify the section and item for me. All I need to do is add a comment. It saves time, reduces tapping around in the app (especially on complex areas like the exterior) and lets me stay focused on the property I’m inspecting, not my device.
How has Property Vision changed the way you deliver reports?
Jason: With my current software, I have to scroll through the entire report, double-check every small item, save it, export to PDF, review again, and then deliver. It’s time-consuming and easy to miss something.
With Property Vision, I use the E&O check before publishing it flags anything I’ve left blank, and I can fix it right there without hunting through the report. I can refresh the check for peace of mind, preview the PDF to make sure everything looks right, and deliver the report directly from my device. It’s faster, more reliable, and lets me focus on quality instead of process.
How does Property Vision help you stay organized during inspections?
Jason: Property Vision gives me a clear structure—section, item, and comment—that keeps everything easy to follow. Most of the workflow stays on one screen, and only the comment view opens separately, making navigation simple with swipe gestures or the back arrow.
My favorite navigation item is the home icon which takes me to the main inspection page, where I can access a file folder and photo gallery. The file folder lets me view attachments like seller disclosures, blueprints, or leach field maps, while the photo gallery shows all my assigned and unassigned images, helping me stay organized and aware of everything I’ve collected. It’s a streamlined system that keeps me focused and efficient throughout the inspection.
What features of Property Vision do you use most often?
Jason: This is a toss-up between Image Analytics which helps me assign my photos where they belong, and Voice Navigation being able to just jump right to a specific spot without having to tap all the way to get there. These too have really sped up my report writing and inspections.
If you could describe Property Vision in one word, what would it be and why?
Jason: If I had to describe Property Vision in one word, it would probably be helper.
Property Vision helps me start my report, cutting prep by telling me details about the property through Cotality’s 360 data like bedrooms, bathrooms, year built, and foundation, to name a few examples.
Not only that, but Property Vision helps me quickly get to where I need to in the report. It helps me take photos and put them where they belong. It helps me by checking over my work and making sure I didn't leave a spot blank. It also helps me get done with work much faster.
More time outside of the inspection could mean more time with a client, it could be more time with potentially new clients like realtors, making my business better. More than anything, it gives me time back. Time with my family. They're very important to me and I love having my time back. So, it's a helper that helps me get my job done quickly, efficiently, and helps give me my time back with those who matter most to me.
