Helpful apps for road warriors – Part 2: Route planning

Written by on September 11, 2015

In part 1 of our "Apps for road warriors" series, we talked about fuel management apps that could help you find cheaper gas and track your vehicle's mpg. This week, we're covering solutions to help you get around the properties you visit every day in a more efficient manner.

Route planning

When you've got a ton of comps to drive to in a day, the route you take could have a substantial impact on your gas tank (and thus, budget)! Use these apps to plan and optimize your route, saving both time and fuel:

  • CoPilot – If CoPilot sounds familiar, it's likely because you've attended one of our Modern Appraiser Roadshow events where we talk about mobile workflow for appraisers. CoPilot is a great app that allows you to plug in the properties you intend to visit and then optimize the route based on fuel efficiency, shorted distance, or drive time. Additionally, CoPilot is a navigation app that offers turn-by-turn voice-assisted guidance to get you exactly where you're going without missing a turn.
  • Waze – Waze is the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. It provides real-time traffic and road information, allowing you to re-route as necessary. Like GasBuddy from last week's fuel management piece, Waze’s information is provided by its users and also includes gas prices to help you find the cheapest gas out there.
  • RoadWarrior Route Planner – This optimization app allows you to optimize up to 8 stops in a trip, or 50 in a day. For a small monthly fee of $4.99, you can optimize larger routes and gain access to an online portal that lets you setup your routes on the web by uploading a spreadsheet and then syncing to multiple devices.

If you have apps that you've found work for you but aren't listed here, share them with our mobile experts! Next week we'll talk about apps that can help you manage your vehicle assets better, including maitenance, records, and repairs.
