Helpful apps for road warriors – Part 3: Vehicle maintenance

Written by on September 24, 2015

In parts 1 and 2 of our series on apps for road warriors, we talked about fuel management and route planning. This week we're talking about apps that can help you better manage your vehicle assets. Everything from maintenance and repairs, to tracking and notifying you when it's time to change the oil.

Maintenance

Your car is an expensive tool. And if you're like most appraisers, you spend a large chunk of your day in it, driving to and from inspections and taking comp photos. Yet many people don't treat it like the tool it really is, and thus neglect proper care and

maintenance. These apps to help you take better care of your car:

  • Road Trip – We talked in part 1 about how this iPhone/iPad app lets you keep track of your fuel efficiency, but it does way more than that. Use it to also track your maintenance reminders and expenses, and see graphs and statistics.
  • RepairPal – This app helps you keep track of your vehicle repair history, manage your expenses on maintenance fees, and find the best rated repair shops in your area.
  • Garmin Mechanic – This Android app connects to Garmin's ecoRoute HD module that you plug into your car's computer. It then tracks your speed and driving distance along with analyzing car performance and fuel consumption automatically.

Using these apps and tools, you can get better information about a key asset in your business (your car!). You may find that you'd be better off upgrading to something more fuel efficient or that performs better or more reliably.
