Save MLS printouts electronically

Written by on January 8, 2013

How much do you spend on ink, toner and paper each month when you print out your MLS sheets? For most appraisers, MLS printouts account for about half of what gets stored in their file cabinets, day after day.

Instead of printing, keeping track of, and then manually archiving thousands of MLS sheets every year, use WinTOTAL’s exclusive Digital Workfile to store your printouts electronically, right along with the rest of your report.

After you've looked up a comp in your MLS,don't print out a physical copy of your comp – save it to PDF instead. Many MLS systems let you do this with a click, but if yours doesn’t, there are several free PDF printers widely available. After you’ve finished your research, simply drag any PDFs you want to save directly into your report’s Workfile PowerView in WinTOTAL. Your PDFs and any notes are now part of this WinTOTAL file, and are backed up with the rest of the forms and photos. And if you back up your reports to the cloud, as with Vault, you don’t have to worry about USPAP compliance issues from lost files due to fire, flood, or hurricane.

If you don’t have WinTOTAL yet, click here for a fully-functional demo to try out the digital Workfile. For those of you with TOTAL 2011, you'll get a brand-new Workfile PowerView with the release of TOTAL 2013 next month.

Bonus Tip
Don't forget to make any comments about a comparable property in the notes section to the left. Every file in the workfile gets its own notes.
