Oklahoma tornado recovery — our role [memo]

Written by on May 24, 2013

Thanks so much for your messages, thoughts, and calls after the tornadoes devastated Oklahoma this week.  Our Oklahoma City Operations Center was unharmed.

Since the first tornadoes struck, our efforts have focused on helping our employees whose homes were destroyed, as well as local customers, their extended families, and appraisers, real estate agents, mortgage professionals, and industry colleagues who needed our immediate help.  We reached out right away and were able to provide cash donations to help them in these first few days.

So where do we go from here?  After all, once the news crews disappear, help will be needed for months and years to put lives and businesses back together.

There has been an outpouring of financial and material help from around the world, and we’re focusing our long term relief efforts on members of the real estate and mortgage communities.  Our approach with company relief is targeted, sustained grassroots help for employees and customers so it makes a tangible and memorable difference.  Right now, here are a few of the things we’re doing:

  • We’ll continue to provide direct financial relief to impacted real estate appraisers, agents, mortgage professionals, and other industry colleagues.
  • Our building space is open to use by any customers that have lost their place of business.
  • All software subscription charges have been suspended for impacted customers.
  • All Mercury Network transaction fees have been waived in impacted counties.
  • Working hand-in-hand with the Oklahoma Association of REALTORS®, we’ve setup co-drop-off points for much needed supplies.  As our trucks are filled, they’re being delivered to the Mid-Del-Moore Association of REALTORS, which is in the heart of the damage.

In fact, if you have real estate friends that have been impacted by these storms, please tell them to contact us at relief@alamode.com or send us their contact information.  We’ll offer help with whatever they may need.  Or, if you happen to be nearby and would like to donate supplies, feel free to drop your items off at our Operations Center at 3705 West Memorial Road (Building 402).

The bottom line is that with our young, creative team, we’ll be in this for the long haul.  And national vendors in the real estate community want to help too and they’ve been reaching out to find ways to pitch in.

Thanks again for your support and concern.  It means a great deal to know Oklahomans aren’t facing this challenge alone.
