Effective October 1, 2006, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Appraiser Roster exam has been streamlined and the examination fee eliminated, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced September 27.

The test has gone from 50 questions to 10, now integrated into the application form to get on the FHA Appraiser Roster, which is available online. Like Fannie Mae's recent new forms, the application now also beefs up the certifications an applicant agrees to.

Mortgage Letter 2006-26, which details the changes and contains complete instructions for getting on the FHA Appraiser Roster, is available by clicking here and selecting "2006 Letters" on the right menu.
